Toowam, jingles
and themes

Toowam is the new children’s identity for France3. This daily
programming began July 1, 2006.
For the formatting, Gédéon
develops a universe in which the sky and clouds are central. They’re
the playground for cartoon heroes, a child’s imagination.
Constraint: the clouds must be rendered very realistic.
To meet the requirements, Eridia develops 3D photo-realistic cumulus
clouds that can take any desired shape. |
They
allow excellent character/cloud integration thanks to automatic
processes for compositing and generating shadows. They are also
flexible and easy to manipulate in terms of animation.
Where the jingles and themes are concerned, one of the constraints
is the systematic interaction of the characters with their environment.
Visually, the effect of vaporous haze masks the characters and,
on the animation side, each movement creates whorls and a more or
less defined deformation consistent with the laws of fluid dynamics.
In the end, we obtain a coherent universe in which 2D characters
and 3D clouds share the stage in service to a concept, all the while
appealing to the imagination of a child.
